Badminton Irish Open

St Mary’s TY students once again were honoured to be selected as line judges for the annual Badminton Irish Open. The prestigious tournament is held every December in the Baldoyle Badminton Arena.

Transition Year students are trained up to be line judges during November. This is an important job, which sees each participating student work with the umpire and service judge in this Olympic ranking event. Upon completion of the tournament each student receives certification of their training and participation in the tournament.

The event ran from the 2nd to 5th December and featured players from all over the globe.
Both organising teachers and tournament officials praised the students for once again providing a high standard of support during the tournament.

Well done to all concerned!

St Mary's has had always had a rich sporting tradition.
Last year was no exception. St Mary's girls did themselves proud, competing in Gaelic Football and soccer winning Basketball titles and also the prestigious School of the Year award from Badminton Ireland. Transition Year students continued the proud tradition of officiating as line judges at the Badminton Irish Open.

Below are some images of a memorable sporting year (including of course yet another victorious teacher win in the annual staff/student basketball match!)
